Julian Cope say:

"Okay, as regulars to this reviews section will by now have guessed, whenever I have a yen to opt out of life
and crawl into the back of my mind, I often find Israeli noise the most suitably discomforting. However, I
have this month been fending off psychic attack with the slightly less offensive sounds of ÉPICYCLE by the
Portuguese artist Alfredo Costa Monteiro. An enormous and diesel-powered Soviet space freighter low on fuel
and crewed by North Korean retards so Luddite they think the remains of last night’s rice supper might get the
engines sputtering into life again, that’s what this record sounds like. For endless repetition only, this one.
Unfortunately, at least from what little I know about Monteiro, this new release appears to be highly unrepresentative
of his regular style. Well all I can say is this shit stinks so bad we need several latrines-full more. Bring on the boxed
set, Lord Alfredo, and don’t forget the accompanying free largactyl syringe! In the meantime, this icky ointment is
available on Barcelona’s Etude Records."

From the WIRE Magazine, Alfredo Costa Monteiro "Épicycle" opinion:
"Alfredo Costa Monteiro is a Barcelona based artist who works across the spectrum from sound art
to visual art after moving out of a sculpture/mixed media background. If that suggests a certain
restlessness, his discography bears that out: Paper Music (2001) was generated entirely from paper-sourced
sounds, while Rumeur (2004) was also a solo accordion work. Epicycle is an exercise in voice processing,
produced entirely using Monteiro´ voice, filtered and reshaped by software. Not that you can really tell:
Monteiro renders it into crackles, buzz, gales of static, and even at one point a bass rumble that threatens
to erupt into Merzbow-style power electronics. Only the faintest traces implying a human larynx are detectable.
Epicycle has a proise and organisation which you could call sculptural as much as musical or tonal, but it feels
dogged by a certain flatness, an interest in form above all else, that makes for an overly pro-faced atmosphere."

From Lasse Marhaug new record label PicaDisk comes this great treasure: Lasse Marhaug Tapes 1990-1999:
Pica001. 4 CD box-set, with silver print and 24 page booklet. Released summer 2007.
"...Norwegian noisehead Lasse Marhaug clearly has an affinity for the cassette tape and the underground
culture that went with it. So I have no doubt he compiled Tapes 1990-1999 with some sense of trepidation,
going from that lo-fi handmade scene to the world of professionally manufactured digital recordings.
At the same time, however, it is a testament to his art and talent that those hand dubbed tapes are now
being presented as a beautifully packaged four disc boxed set, complete with a 24 page booklet of essays
and reproductions of tape artwork. Picadisk...

From our friends Frozen Elephant Music

Please note this new release by Frozenelephantsmusic.com introducing the duo Mike Hansen
from Canada and Tomasz Krakowiak from Poland. Both artists have been involved with improvided
music for a decade, collaborating and releasing outstanding works with international artists
such as John Butcher, Kaffe Matthews, John Oswald, Otomo Yoshihide, Aki Onda and many more.
For Frozenelephantsmusic.com they have selected various unplugged and improvised works, a
tremendous collection of raw and haunting compositions made from record-player (Hansen) and
percussion (Krakowiak) only. The demanding recordings of “The Confines of Power” combine
crackling ruins of sound, concrete noise-incidents, sine feedbacks, intimate close-ups and
detailed ideas of scale and movement. Hansen has already been part of the “Connected Dots.
Connected Ideas” compilation release in March 2007.

Some Mike Hansen "At every point" (Etude010) reviews:
"...Mike Hansen consegue momentos fervilhantes e merecedores de atenção."-Bodyspace.net
"An adventure in language construction from a concrete outlook. Taken apart, the acoustic, electric, miked instrumental sources and prepared turntable samples provide the materials for a collage
of abstract narrative motifs, idiomatic fragments, and colour masses that coexist like constitutive linguistic formants in their various stages of development."
-Modisti
"Abstract images occur in one's mind while listening, creating a mysterious atmosphere. This is an exciting piece of work without a weak moment."-Phosphor magazine
"Canadian turntablist and improviser Hansen created an album that's as impenetrable as the contorted psychology of a person who hears voices..."-Touching Extremes
"Recommended for headphones, or rather loud speakers."-DaveX
