Alfredo Costa Monteiro, Porto (Portugal), 1964

He finishes his studies in sculpture / multimedia at the fine art school of Paris in 1992, and the same year, he moves to Barcelona, where he lives and works. Since then, his work stands somewhere between visual arts, visual/sound poetry and sound. His installations and sound pieces, most of them of a low-fi character, have in common an interest for unstable processes, where the manipulation of objects as instruments or instruments as objects has a strong phenomenological aspect. He has shown his work in many individual and group exhibitions since 1995. From 1998 to 2007, he was member of 22a, an independent collective for contemporary art. From 2001 to 2007, he was member of IBA col.lectiu d’improvisació.
In sound poetry, he performs in solo, but also with Leos Ator, writing and reading polyglot and noise poems in portuguese, french and spanish. Since 2001, he’s been involved in many improvisation projects and has toured in Europe and Japan. He regularly collaborates with french theatre company Émile Saar, as an author, and
with spanish video-artist Dionís Escorsa.

He is currently member of the following formations:
